See formulas & sources ↗Two ways to compare a price
Divide a total quote or purchase price by its area to find dollars per square foot. Multiply a unit price by the area to estimate total cost. A $250,000 property with 1,000 sq ft works out to $250 per sq ft.
For useful comparisons, use the same definition of area and the same scope of cost. Land, finishes, labor, taxes, delivery and location can change prices substantially. A unit price is a comparison aid, not a valuation.
